A classic trek that retraces the pioneering steps of Shipton and Tilman through the Garhwal Himalaya. The Nanda Devi basin must surely be one of the most legendary regions in the entire Himalayan chain. The mountain itself, revered since time immemorial by all those who live in its shadow, has long attracted the attention of the pioneering mountaineers and explorers, mystics and spiritualists, writers and everyday travellers who have visited the area. Everest may well be the highest peak in the world but the beautiful peak of Nanda Devi must surely be the most fascinating.
Itinerary
Day 01: Haridwar - Sringar
Reach Haridwar by Shatbadi or cab and met by VTS member for onward journey to Srinagar.On the way lunch and reach Srinagar in the evening and check-in to a nice Retreat. O/N stay at retreat. (L,D)
Day 02: Srinagar - Joshimath - Lata Village
In the morning after breakfast drive to Joshimath via Devprayag, Rudraprayag, Joshimath. Lunch enroute. An hours drive will take you to Lata village road head and 20 mts trek to the village. Evening spent in Lata Village. Overnight stay in camps in Lata village.(B,L,D)
Day 03: Lata Kharak (3689 mts/12099 ft) (9 kms/6-7 hrs)
Today's trek is a steep incline. The going is arduous but very satisfying as the trail unfolds before ones eyes. Lata Kharak is a high plateau with high peaks surrounding it. Trekking time could vary from 5 - 7 hrs! Overnight in Camp or FRH.(B,L,D)
Day 04: Lata Kharak - Saini Kharak - Lata Kharak (3990 mtrs / 13000 fts (4 km / 2 Hrs)
A good night’s sleep and what a morning! Towering snow clad peaks all around, dronagori, Nandaghunti, Trishul peak and many more. The trail today takes you to Saini kharak with packed lunch and from there one can experince Nanda Devi at its best with a classic view of Rishi Gorge underneath where one can hear the sound of Glacier. Evening back to base camp at lata Kharak. O/N at Camp / FRH.(B,L,D)
Day 05: Lata Kharak - Tolma Village
Today we go through a steep descent of 7.5 km to the Tolma camp site through thick forests of Rhododendron, Birch and Fir. Overnight at Camp.(B,L,D)
Day 06: Tolma Village - Tolma Road head
After breakfast a 3 KM trek to Tolma road head and passing through a magnificient Tolma Village. Drive back to joshimath for Lunch and some shopping. After Lunch drive to Haridwar for onward Journey.(B,L)
